Being A Dreamer

I passed sweet Mrs Rachael in our Cafe at the Bham Dream Center recently. Our matching outfits prompted me to write this.
Dreamers. We are often seen as these whimsical romantics who are completely enchanted with life. We see things differently, with hope and wonder.
But sometimes, we as dreamers forget the grit and endurance that this name requires.
Israel created an extravagant coat of colors to dress his favored son with. I imagine Joseph feeling completely magical as he glided along in this custom made robe of wonder. His father gave him this gift. He didn't ask for it. It just came with being a product of his love.
Sure Joseph wasn't the most mature of beings. Sometimes he acted a little stupid even, But he was a dreamer. And he lived in that world of whimsy that people like me seem to crave.
But then, Joseph was stripped of this coat of many colors that symbolized everything he was...or thought he was. What he thought was a sign of his identity was now lost and gone forever.
Joseph was thrown into a pit and sent far, far away. His very existence was forgotten. He was betrayed over and over and over. His gifts we used by others for personal gain only to be forgotten again.
Joseph had dreams. But instead of seeing them come to pass he sat locked in a prison tending to the dreams of others.
But what's so cool about Jospeh is that he never let his dreams die because the whimsy and magic faded. He trusted God for the higher purpose. He sat and listened to the dreams of others. He told them the truth.
He served. He worked hard. He honored. He waited.
And when the time came to face the ones who tried to destroy his dreams in the first place...Joseph had nothing but grace and kindness to give.
He knew that all along his dream wasn't about ruling or power...it was about SAVING PEOPLES LIVES. A business that is messy and full of grit. But worth every penny in the end.
Bottom line is...let us not confuse our dreams with the loveliness of its first appearance. (Dreams are deep/heavy gifts that we can't bear on our own.) But let us look deeper down to the very soul of this weighted gift. Any true dream is not for our own benefit but for the sake of saving peoples' lives.
